An SAP note is a number of code/object fixes delivered to customers by SAP and are implemented via the SAP Note Assistant (SNOTE). Periodically SAP also release support packages which are made up of many SAP Note corrections.
SAP notes include a description of the issue and all the information and code changes required to fix the problem. It also holds information about which SAP version and release level it is valid for.
There are various types of SAP Notes including correction instructions, FAQ notes which simply contain information or frequently asked questions and pilot notes which are only release to certain customs who may be piloting new functionality.
SAP notes are available via the service marketplace which used to be accessed via URL http://service.sap.com
